How to Write a Case Study Article Like a Bioethicist

A woman named Carole Taylor made headlines a few weeks after Cigna Health care denying her a double-lung transplant. In 2021, Taylor went onto the transplant to receive two lungs due to non-small cell lunger cancer. 3 weeks ago, Taylor received a call from Vanderbilt Medical Center saying there were lungs available. However, as doctors prepped her for the operating room, her insurance company (Cigna) denied the claim last-minute. Thus, Taylor did not receive new legs as she could not pay the 1.2 million dollars out-of-pocket for the surgery. Taylor and her family took to Twitter their concerns about the healthcare system in American and how it is 'corrupt and anti-life'. Although doctors say Taylor is back on the transplant, her medical team will need to track down another pair of donor lungs before she can undergo her surgery.

Taylor's account is one of the hundreds of stories that highlight the growing-issues within the medical field. In addition to insurance companies denying patient's claims last minute, there are other pressing issues such as: abortion, medical aid and dying, stem cell research, etc. which continue to plague the healthcare system. Yet, a new discipline has emerged to look over the ethics behind medical and biological research. Through bioethics, individuals can study ethical issues evident in health care as medicine continue to evolve.
